How do we get our mail?

Occasionally we are asked how we get our mail. It’s really simple. Amy and I paid for a mail forwarding service. There are several mail forwarding services available in several states. The choice of which mail forwarding service that most RVers choose basically comes down to which state they intend to make their home of record. Every RVer has different reasons for the state they choose. Amy and I found it most convenient for us to select MyRVmail.com located in Crestview, Florida. As soon as we arrived to Crestview we changed our home of record to Florida. By doing so it saved us a ton of money over continuing California as our home of record. Florida is also very friendly to 100% disabled veterans like me.

How it works:

We can access our account online and see a list of mail that is in our mailbox. We have full control of what mail we want forwarded to the address we provide. We can even have them open it and scan it to view it online. Only a few mail forwarding services will scan the mail for you. We usually have the mail forwarded to General Delivery at the Post Office nearest our location. Sometimes we can have mail forwarded to the RV Park we are staying at.

Also, this service is not just for RVers. It is available to all persons who are away from home and travel a lot. Good examples are truckers, traveling nurses, frequent business travelers, boaters/cruisers, missionaries, armed forces personnel, and anyone else on the go.

How often do we get our mail?

Most of the time, we will get our mail twice a month. It really depends on our travel schedule and how much mail is in our mailbox. If there is an important piece of mail we are expecting, we’ll request it right away.

So when should mail be sent to us:

Most of the time, any time. If it is for a special occasion or holiday we recommend you send it about four weeks ahead of time.

What not to send:

Unless you arranged it ahead of time, we don’t recommend you sending any perishable items. The mail forwarding service folks don’t like to smell spoiled items. If you want to send us items like that, you must contact us directly so we can give you a direct address to our location. In most cases, you’d be better off keeping your shipping expenses low by sending us a gift card.
